The Causes of Infertility in Men

The Most Common Causes for Infertility

Most causes of infertility have medical symptoms in the reproductive systems of the man or the woman or can be a combination of problems from both. To get a better understanding let’s look at some of the common causes of male infertility.

Low sperm count.

This is probably the most common cause of infertility in men. Sperm are very fragile and many do not reach the egg. This is why most men produce millions at a time, however, the less a man produces, the fewer chances he’ll have to be able to reach the egg.

The only way to get an accurate sperm count for a man is to be tested by a doctor. The amount of ejaculate or size of a man’s genital organs has nothing to do with actual sperm count.

Certain lifestyles, like increased alcohol intake and smoking, can also have a negative effect on sperm count and are some of the most common causes for infertility. Men who are 40 or older often have decreased fertility.

Low sperm motility

This is a problem commonly referred to as “slow” or “sluggish” sperm. The sperm do not move as well as they should.

Low sperm morphology

Sperm is not a regular shape, making it harder for them to move and fertilize an egg.

Previous use of steroids or other pharmaceutical drugs

The following medications have infertility as a side effect;

  • sulfasalazine — an anti-inflammatory medicine used to treat conditions such as Crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis; sulfasalazine can decrease the number of sperm.
  • anabolic steroids — are often used illegally to build muscle and improve athletic performance; long-term abuse of anabolic steroids, which are made of testosterone, can reduce sperm count and sperm mobility
  • steroids — used for asthma, acne, allergic reaction, eye drops, these can all affect a man’s sperm
  • chemotherapy — medicines used in chemotherapy can sometimes severely reduce sperm production

Illegal drugs, nicotine, and alcohol

Testicles

The testicles produce and store sperm. If they’re damaged, it can seriously affect the quality of your semen.

This can happen as a result of:

  • an infection of your testicles
  • testicular cancer
  • testicular surgery
  • a problem with your testicles you were born with (a congenital defect)
  • when 1 or both testicles has not descended into the scrotum (the loose sac of skin that contains your testicles (undescended testicles))
  • injury to your testicles

Stress

When we are under stress, the fight or flight hormones, adrenaline, and cortisol are released in the body. We often overlook stress, that everyone is stressed, its no big deal, but when cortisol and adrenaline are out of balance, so are the sex hormones, necessary for reproduction.

Erectile Dysfunction

The pressure a man can feel to perform when facing infertility can lead to decreased sexual desire and performance, leading to depression. There are many Homeopathic remedies that can really help in this situation. My go-to remedy in this situation is Lycopodium.

Lycopodium

People who need this remedy may have problems with erections because of worry, and can also be troubled by memory loss. They often lack self-confidence (though some may overcompensate by acting egotistically). People who need this remedy often have digestive problems with gas and bloating, and an energy slump in the late afternoon and evening.

Low Levels of Testosterone

Our environment is becoming more and more polluted with hormones. The contraceptive pill is taking by women and then it is released into the water supply which is recycled, without removing the excess hormones and consumed by men.

Plastic releases synthetic estrogen and other hormone disrupters, which disrupt hormones levels in men, increasing the levels of estrogen, and lowering the levels of testosterone. A symptom of high estrogen in men is the formation of breast tissue.

Male infertility is extremely complex. As a Homeopath, I have many tools I can use to restore fertility in men, but each case is taken on an individual basis, to get the right prescription, based on a full medical history.

Here are the most common detoxes I use to treat male infertility. Many of these can be used in a combination with each other, to bring back fertility as quickly as possible.

  • A Homeopathic Detox of Steroids
  • A Homeopathic Detox of Sulfasalazine
  • A Homeopathic Detox of Chemotherapy Drugs
  • A Homeopathic Detox of Recreational Drugs
  • A Homeopathic Detox of Cigarettes
  • A Homeopathic Detox of Plastic
  • A Homeopathic Detox of Alcohol
  • A Homeopathic Balance of Cortisol
  • A Homeopathic Balance of Testosterone
  • A Homeopathic Balance of Adrenaline

In future blogs, I will be explaining each of these points in more detail to help you understand how to treat male infertility naturally.
